Don’t Let Spring Allergies Get You Down: 9 Indoor Air Quality Tips

Don't Let Spring Allergies Get You Down: 9 Indoor Air Quality TipsSpring is the time of year when allergies and asthma can really make life miserable, which is why it’s so important for you to improve the indoor air quality of your Fresno area home. To protect yourself, try following any or all of these nine tips:

  1. Install a UV light system – Ultraviolet lights work with your HVAC system to eliminate many of the micro-organisms that can make your indoor air unhealthy.
  2. Get rid of moisture – Mold spores can be a huge problem for allergy sufferers, and they need moisture to grow. Investing in a whole-house dehumidifier will help prevent mold from developing.
  3. Check your air filter – Once a month, inspect your system’s air filter and replace it if it appears dirty. This will improve both your indoor air quality and the HVAC equipment’s efficiency.
  4. Take off your shoes – Removing your shoes when you come into the house will keep outside contaminants, including allergens, from being tracked inside.
  5. Say goodbye to clutter – Those stacks of papers and knick-knacks attract dust and are hard to clean.
  6. Replace your sponges – Kitchen sponges are home to many thousands of bacteria. Replace them weekly.
  7. Use an air-purification system – This investment can greatly improve your indoor quality. Some air cleaners even remove odors and vapors from your Fresno area home.
  8. Eliminate dust mites – These critters love your bed sheets, blankets and pillow cases. Clean all of these once a week in hot water.
  9. Purchase microfiber cloths – These cloths not only clean without spreading dust around as you wipe down pieces of furniture, they’re also machine-washable, meaning that you can reuse them.
